A synthetic quality index to evaluate the functional stability of soil microbial communities after perturbations

چکیده

Soil stability includes both resistance, the ability to withstand a perturbation or stress, and resilience, recover pre levels. The functional of soil microbial communities is paramount importance for ecosystem functioning. We investigated differences in (resistance resilience) three enzyme activities (hydrolytic, laccase peroxidase) different forest (holm oak, black pine beech) soils after addition PAHs (phenanthrene, pyrene benzo[a]pyrene) with molecular weights. Furthermore, we proposed new quality index (MAI) based on measured activity values, useful quantify ecological impact perturbations (PAH exposure our case). degradation rates follow their complexity, slowing increasing PAH weight all types. Moreover, found higher resistance “broad scale” (hydrolase), respect two “narrow-niche” (laccase peroxidase). results demonstrate content recalcitrant organic matter (soil under pine), compared labile holm oak). In particular, less affected by phenanthrene pine; peroxidase shows resilience beech added. Resistance and/or contamination, observed hydrolytic soils, mainly due high diversity enzymes expressing this type catalytic activity.

Functional Potential of Soil Microbial Communities in the Maize Rhizosphere

Microbial communities in the rhizosphere make significant contributions to crop health and nutrient cycling. However, their ability to perform important biogeochemical processes remains uncharacterized. Here, we identified important functional genes that characterize the rhizosphere microbial community to understand metabolic capabilities in the maize rhizosphere using the GeoChip-based functio...

Synthetic microbial communities☆

While natural microbial communities are composed of a mix of microbes with often unknown functions, the construction of synthetic microbial communities allows for the generation of defined systems with reduced complexity. Used in a top-down approach, synthetic communities serve as model systems to ask questions about the performance and stability of microbial communities. In a second, bottom-up...
